This session is dedicated to exploring the value of picture books as a tool for connection, cognitive stimulation, and well-being for older adults. Beginning with an overview of the characteristics of aging and cognitive decline, the presentation will highlight key scientific evidence demonstrating the benefits of reading in later life. We will discuss the power of reading as an experience of care and connection, and how to mindfully select a picture book by evaluating its themes, language, and illustrations. Furthermore, examples of interventions tailored for both cognitively intact older adults and individuals living with dementia will be presented. The event will conclude with the introduction of the Sempreverdi (Evergreens) project and a curated selection of bibliographic recommendations.
Curated by Anna Cascone.
